Bracken Cottage, Brancaster Staithe

Bracken Cottage is a former fisherman’s cottage which has been refurbished to make a comfortable holiday retreat. The interior is charming with thought given to its furnishings and design. Often described as “warm and cosy” in the visitor’s book.

The cottage is entered via the south facing sitting room with two sofas, TV/DVD player, WiFi, well stocked book shelves and DVDs, traditional fireplace with “coal effect” electric stove. Through to a lobby with downstairs bathroom and then kitchen/dining room with a conservatory extension. The kitchen is a light airy room with purpose built units with granite worktop and butlers sink. Electric cooker, microwave oven, washing machine. French doors lead into the pretty paved garden with table and chairs.

Up the steepish stairs and there are two bedrooms: the main south facing bedroom has a double bed, wardrobe, dressing table, the second smaller bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and under-bed storage.

The cottage is double glazed and heated with storage heaters.

There is also mentioned in the visitor’s book of its perfect position, half way between the two excellent privately owned pubs. Both with good food – and the view from The White Horse balcony is not to be missed. The coastal path runs behind the cottage, accessible via The White Horse car park. There is a supermarket at the garage and a fish shop just down the road. On “The Hard” where the sailing boats are launched, there is a cabin selling crab sandwiches and also a ferry running out to Scolt Head Island. Walking out at low tide to Brancaster beach is possible, but check the tide tables. Beaches are good - at the next village of Brancaster (National Trust) and of course the wonderful Holkham beach. One can also walk out to the beach from Burnham Overy Staithe - along the bank – about 1 ½ miles. There is bike hire in the village. Bird Reserves are also near.

Nearby is Burnham Market with its lovely shops: Fish shop, wine shop, deli and greengrocers, butchers and clothes shops not forgetting the cafes and restaurants. There also you will find The Pharmacy, the Dentist and the Doctor’s Surgery.

Because the cottage is old, there are two low doorways. The cottage is non-smoking. Pets are allowed, either one big dog or two small.

Included in the price is heating and electricity, linen is provided but not towels.

Parking is OK on the road during the day, but there is a paid for place on the land adjoining the village hall nearly opposite.
